The Lemon Tetra (Hyphessobrycon pulchripinnis) is a delightful addition to community aquariums, known for its cheerful coloration and peaceful nature. It’s a great choice for aquarists of all experience levels.

Key Features:

• Coloration: Lemon Tetras have a translucent, lemon-yellow body with hints of silver. Their fins are often edged with black, and their eyes have a distinct red upper portion.
• Size: They typically grow to about 1.5–2 inches (4–5 cm).
• Temperament: Peaceful and social, they thrive in schools of six or more. Their calm demeanor makes them compatible with a wide range of tank mates.

Habitat:

• Natural Environment: Found in the slow-moving rivers and streams of South America, especially in the Amazon basin. They inhabit areas with dense vegetation and dim lighting.
• Tank Setup: A planted tank with subdued lighting and a dark substrate will enhance their colors. Floating plants are a great addition to mimic their natural environment.

Behavior:

Breeding:

• Spawning Setup: Use a separate breeding tank with fine-leaved plants or spawning mops. A slightly acidic pH (around 6.5) and soft water encourage spawning.
• Eggs and Fry: Lemon Tetras are egg scatterers. After spawning, remove the adults to prevent them from eating the eggs. The eggs will hatch in 1–2 days, and the fry can be fed infusoria or powdered fry food.
