In nature, they have around 50 subspecies and can be seen in South America, and Southeast Asia. Their flowers have two parts central spadix and a spathe cover. Usually, they are grown in tissue culture labs because of their excessive need in the hobby. People buy primarily because of its beautiful whitish flowers. Geberelic acid spray; a plant hormone is used by many Gardners to have continuous blooms. In greenhouse conditions, they are given 30 percent of shade for better growth.
Rebloom is difficult on this plant once bloomed. Given enough shade, moisture, and fertilization, they might bloom again. Although their flowers are seen whitish color, occasionally we can see them produce green spade flowers.
They can’t tolerate direct sunlight. And keeping them under shade is extremely important. They naturally grow under trees in tropical forests, so mimicking an environment where they grow in your home can definitely benefit this plant; that means having a good humid condition helps. Some cultivars in this plant can tolerate heat and some can’t. Their leaves droop if underwater. So that’s an indication for watering. Adding moss, vermiculite and organic decayed matter helps because of their water holding capacity. If you want beautiful shiny-looking green leaf, of course, you can add organic fertilizers.
Propagation of this plant is very easy. Always there are many saplings under a matured peace lily. So you need to take the matured plant from a pot and slowly cut rhizome to divide the plants. Water propagation of saplings also helps to develop roots faster on young plants before transferring to the soil.
The plant need often watering and airflow for better growth. Milli bugs, bacterial and fungal infections are few problems around this plant although this plant is very tolerant to most problems and pests. Checking plants regularly for problems definitely helps though.
