Brown ghost crayfish ( pair)

The “Brown Ghost Crayfish” is a color variant of the popular aquarium crayfish

 Appearance

• Color: light brown → dark muddy brown
• Body: slightly translucent (ghost-like)
• Legs & claws: may show lighter or bluish tones
• Size: 10–15 cm (can grow quite big)

 Color can change slightly depending on:

• Diet
• Water quality
• Substrate color

 Behavior

• Semi-aggressive to aggressive
• Territorial, especially with other bottom dwellers
• Will hunt small fish, shrimp, snails

 Think of them as predators, not community fish

 Care Guide

Tank size:

• Minimum 60–80 liters for one

Water parameters:

• Temp: 20–28°C
• pH: 6.5–8
• Hard water preferred (helps shell health)

Tank setup:

• Provide hiding spots (rocks, pipes, caves)
• Use a secure lid (they are escape artists!)

 Diet

• Omnivorous scavenger:
  • Pellets (sinking)
  • Vegetables (spinach, zucchini)
  • Dead fish / shrimp
  • Occasional protein (worms, insects)

 Molting (Very Important)

• Crayfish shed their shell to grow
• During molting:
  • They become very soft and vulnerable
  • Hide a lot

 Never remove the old shell—they eat it for calcium

 Tank Mates

✔ Possible:

• Fast, mid/top swimmers (with caution)

❌ Avoid:

• Shrimp (will be eaten)
• Slow fish
• Other crayfish (fighting risk)

 Rarity

• Less common than:
  • White ghost crayfish
  • Blue crayfish
• Often sold under different names in local markets
