Alocasia Scalprum (small jiffy)

Alocasia scalprum is a rare jewel Alocasia known for its narrow, elongated, metallic-dark green leaves with a reptile-skin texture. It’s a bit sensitive but very rewarding with the right care.

 Light

• Bright, indirect light

• Avoid direct sun (burns leaves)

• Too little light = slow growth and dull color

 Water

• Keep soil evenly moist, never soggy

• Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil is dry

• Use filtered / rainwater if possible

• Overwatering causes root rot quickly

 Temperature

• Ideal: 20–28°C

• Minimum: 15°C

• Protect from cold drafts and AC

 Humidity (Very Important)

• Loves high humidity: 70–90%

• Use:

  • Humidifier

  • Pebble tray

  • Grouping plants together

• Low humidity causes leaf curling & crispy edges

 Soil Mix

Fast-draining but moisture-retentive:

• 40% cocopeat or peat

• 30% perlite

• 20% orchid bark

• 10% compost or worm castings

Pot must have excellent drainage.

 Fertilizer

• Feed every 2–3 weeks in growing season

• Use balanced liquid fertilizer (½ strength)

• Stop or reduce feeding in winter

 Repotting

• Only when root-bound

• Prefer slightly snug pot

• Best time: spring or early summer

 Common Problems

• Yellow leaves → overwatering

• Drooping leaves → cold or underwatering

• Spider mites / thrips → low humidity

• Dormancy → normal in cooler month
